Embassy of the United States of America in Haiti: U.S. Congressional Delegation Assesses Security Progress in Haiti

Port-au-Prince, Haiti – On Monday, July 27, 2026, a United States Congressional Delegation (CODEL) led by U.S. House Foreign Affairs Chairman Brian Mast conducted an official visit to Haiti as part of its oversight activities related to key regional security and foreign policy matters.
The primary objective of the mission was to assess international efforts aimed at mitigating Haiti’s ongoing security crisis and political instability. During their visit, members of the delegation met with Haiti’s senior government officials in Port-au-Prince, including Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Religious Affairs Raina Forbin, Minister of Defense Mario Andrésol, Minister of Justice and Public Security Patrick Pélissier, and Acting Director General of the Haitian National Police (PNH) André Jonas Vladimir Paraison. Discussions focused on the challenges facing the country, as well as necessary steps to improve security.
The delegation also visited the Vertières military base, where they attended a presentation of a class of recruits from the Armed Forces of Haiti (FAd’H). Members of the delegation observed ongoing efforts to strengthen Haiti’s national defense capabilities.
In addition, CODEL members met with leaders of the Gang Suppression Force (GSF), which provided an update on its ongoing operations.
